Yummy Yummy (1998) is a remake of The Wiggles' second video special, released on April 13, 1998. It is arguably one of The Wiggles' most popular videos along with Wiggle Time (1998), featuring iconic video clips of some of the band's hits like "Hot Potato", "Fruit Salad" and "The Monkey Dance" (which had first been recorded years beforehand). Some songs were re-recorded for this version. Songs like "Pufferbillies" and "Havenu Shalom Alechem" were not in the original version but added to this video. No songs from the original video were removed, except for "Dorothy's Birthday Party" (which was featured on Wiggle Time!).

Overview[]

It's time to learn how to "Monkey Dance" and do the "Shaky Shaky." Ever wonder how to handle a "Hot Potato" or make a "Fruit Salad"? Murray, Jeff, Anthony and Greg will have children singing, laughing and grooving to funny tunes about numbers, food and favorite animal friends. Millions of Brit and Aussie kids can't be wrong - this fabulous foursome is the hottest musical import since John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Filmed[]

The studio scenes were filmed from January 17 - 21, 1998, just a couple of days after Wiggle Time ‘98 completed production.[citation needed]

The Wiggle puppets scenes used in the international versions of Yummy Yummy ‘98 were filmed sometime between May - August 1998 during the filming of TV Series 2.

Plot[]

The Wiggles introduce themselves and Paul the Cook. Paul has some hot potatoes, cold spaghetti and mashed bananas. Greg introduces a song and warns the audience to look out for Captain Feathersword.

  • Song 1: Hot Potato (new recording)

Anthony introduces the song about an old steam train and asks everyone to follow along.

Captain Feathersword does a dance that Henry showed him and The Wiggles do it too.

Greg comments on how there are many places you can walk or run to. Dorothy is walking and eating some roses, Captain Feathersword is running to his pirate ship, Henry is walking to the ocean to have a swim, Wags is running to get some bones and Jeff is sleepwalking!

  • Song 5: Walk

Anthony is with four children playing with coloured dough and tells the good things about what to do with dough, like hammering.

After the song, everyone goes to sleep and immediately wakes up... except for Jeff! After Jeff is awoken, he bounces around the room. Anthony asks what he is doing and Jeff says he's doing a monkey dance!

The Wiggles and Captain Feathersword are making crunchy munchy honey cakes and mention the different ingredients.

The Wiggles are going to get ready for the song, but first they need to get into their shaking clothes. They go behind a curtain and come out dressed in Elvis-inspired clothing.

  • Song 10a: Teddy Bear Hug (Australian and worldwide Classic Wiggles YouTube upload versions)
  • Song 10b: Wigglemix (UK and US versions)

Each of the Wiggles say hello in a different language. In Hebrew, they say "Havenu shalom alechem."

  • Song 12: I Am A Dancer – Greg lead sings this one, while the other wiggles do ballet moves running across in the background.

Greg performs a magic trick involving The Box Of Mystery Trick.

  • Song 13a: Numbers Rhumba (Australian and worldwide Classic Wiggles YouTube upload versions)

The Wiggles and Paul cook up a healthy recipe, fruit salad, by using bananas, grapes, apples and melons with bowls, knives, forks and spoons.

  • Song 14: Fruit Salad

Trivia[]

  • This is the second remake video, along with Wiggle Time!, which was released the same day.
  • It's also the last remake video to use the Red Starry Guitar and Takamine guitars, as well as the 1997 long sleeved BONDS shirts with plain black trousers
    • Three years later, It was revealed their original BONDS skivvies were made out of cotton as experts warned the group that wearing these long sleeved tees over time could make tiny holes caused by their belts. This could mean according to Anthony in 2022 Today Show interview he commented "We sweated so much in these skivvies, and at one show, Murray was sweating, and one child in the audience yelled out "Murray's melting!" and the other people in the audience thought that we might have to update them." although The Wiggles continued to wear the short-sleeved BONDS shirts on tour until 2006 when Greg retired and was replaced by Sam.
  • "Pufferbillies" and "Havenu Shalom Alechem" make their video debuts.
  • The Big Red Car doesn't appears in this video.
  • The audio mix is made up of mono track panned slightly to the left or right on all versions.
  • The prologues for D.O.R.O.T.H.Y. (My Favourite Dinosaur), Teddy Bear Hug and I Am A Dancer aren't used. The same also applies for the epilogues for Crunchy Munchy Honey Cakes, Shaky Shaky and Henry's Dance.
  • In the US and UK versions, Teddy Bear Hug and Numbers Rhumba were replaced with puppet versions of Wigglemix and Go Captain Feathersword, Ahoy! (which were both previously featured in The Dorothy the Dinosaur and Friends Video). Teddy Bear Hug is a Raffi song, while Numbers Rhumba was written by David Walden and the necessary rights for these songs to appear in the video likely couldn't be obtained. However, Numbers Rhumba did appear on the North American release of the album despite this.
  • Songs from this video can be seen in The Wiggles (TV Series 1) and The Wiggles (TV Series 2).
  • The song title banner was used for some songs in TV Series 1.
  • "Shaky Shaky" is the only song where the title card is played during the prologue and not during the song.
  • Paul the Cook is played by Paul Hester, which back then, he and Tony Henry were The Wiggles drummers, as such this is the second video where one of The Wiggles' musicians guest stars, the first was Wake Up Jeff! with The Wiggles' trumpet player Dominic Lindsay, after this would be Yule Be Wiggling, the musician guest stars in which were violin player Maria Schattovits, cello player Margaret Lindsay and trumpet player Dominic Lindsay
  • Ned and Freya Pike appear only in the prologue of Numbers Rhumba.
  • On the back cover of the 2007 Warner Home Video DVD, Wags was altered so that his colours resemble his current design.
  • This wasn't the latest appearance of the cloud background set until 2016's Dance Dance!.
  • Footage from "Teddy Bear Hug" is used twice in the closing credits.
  • The 2007 Warner Home Video release of this and Sailing Around the World kept the HIT Entertainment logo at the end for unknown reasons.
  • This is the only Wiggles was not release by Paramount Video or NCircle to not have a DVD menu.
  • The video was first uploaded in fragmented parts on The Wiggles' YouTube channel as part of the Classic Wiggles series from July 9th to September 10th of 2019. It was later uploaded in full on December 15th, 2023.
  • With Paul Hester, this is the first collaboration video, the second was Wiggly Safari with Steve Irwin (aka The Crocodile Hunter) and the third was The Wiggles' Big Ballet Day! with The Australian Ballet.
  • "Joannie Works With One Hammer" wasn't done twice until December 2013 with The New Wiggles, it was just done once in a regular tempo, The New Wiggles did it first in a regular tempo and then in a fast tempo.
  • This is The Wiggles' second video remake, the others include Wiggle Time! on the same year as this video, Here Comes The Big Red Car and It's Time to Wake Up Jeff! (also known as Wiggle Around the Clock) in 2006, Hot Potatoes! The Best of The Wiggles in 2014 and Wiggly, Wiggly Christmas! in 2017.
  • The outro of this video's audio was later reused in the credits of It's a Wiggly Wiggly World!.
  • Anthony does an Elvis impression when he says "I've got my shaking clothes."
  • Just like Wiggle Time, The 1998 remake was more successful than the 1994 original, as it was released in markets outside Australia and New Zealand and uploaded on YouTube as part of Classic Wiggles starting on July 10, 2019.
  • The NCircle rerelease starts looping over and over again when finished until you stop it.
  • In the 2023 full upload of the video, Teddy Bear Hug and Numbers Rhumba were cut out.

Goofs[]

  • Despite the songs from this being listed, the 2003 Singapore VCD release of the video uses the original video.
  • On the Australian VHS back cover, Havenu Shalom Alechem was misspelled as Havenu Shalom Alachem.
  • On the US small clamshell VHS and 2003 DVD back cover, Pufferbillies was misspelled as Pufferbellies.
  • On the US alternate VHS and 2003 DVD Cover, the song list states that Havenu Shalom Alechem comes before Wigglemix when it's actually the opposite.
  • When the songs from this video and Wiggle Time! remake were featured in The Wiggles' first TV Series, some sounds were added.
  • The US and UK versions of the credits still show scenes of Teddy Bear Hug and Numbers Rhumba despite them not appearing in those versions. Because of this, nobody knew what songs those were at the time of those releases until those songs appeared on TV Series 1 episodes such as Foodman and Murray’s Shirt aired on Playhouse Disney in the USA from 2002 and Nick Jr. in the UK from 2004.
  • On the Canadian VHS, the back cover lists "Greg's Magic Trick" as a song.
    • It also mentions "Numbers Rhumba" and "Teddy Bear Hug" in the description, despite both of those songs being replaced.
