This article is about the song from The Three Little Pigs. For the episode from Tangled: The Series, see Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?.
"Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?" is a song composed by Frank Churchill and Ann Ronell. It made its debut in The Three Little Pigs, a Disney short released in 1933. Although Henry Hall and Victor Young both recorded their own versions of it in the same year, B5 recorded their own hip-hop version in 2006.
The song was reused in the sequels to Three Little Pigs, and its writing was re-enacted in the "Cavalcade of Songs" episode on the Disneyland television series in 1955. It featured in the Sing Along Songs videos "I Love to Laugh" and Disney Sing Along Songs: Collection of All Time Favorites: The Early Years, and has been included in numerous Disney recordings.
Disneyland Records produced a re-recording of the song in 1958, released concurrently as a single in Disney's "Wonderful Records" series of 45s and on the Mickey Mouse Club LP "Four Disney Stories," conducted by Tutti Camarata. It was a re-enactment of the original cartoon in audio, with noticeable differences being all three pigs voiced by Gloria Wood (unlike the originals, where Practical Pig was voiced by Pinto Colvig), the Big Bad Wolf has a more menacing voice (this time by Jimmy MacDonald), and a few additional verses and dialogue that was not present in the original cartoon. This version was also released on an album in the early 1960s entitled "The Story and Songs of Walt Disney's Three Little Pigs" and a few other compilation albums, and also included on Disney's read-along book-and-audio adaptations of the cartoon.
LL Cool J plays the hip hop version from Simply Mad About the Mouse.
Lyrics[]
Fifer Pig: I built my house of straw
I built my house of hay
I toot my flute
I don't give a toot
And fight around all day
Fiddler Pig: I built my house of sticks
I built my house of twigs
With a hey-diddle-diddle
I play on the fiddle
And dance all kinds of jigs
Practical Pig: I built my house of stone
I built my house of bricks
I have no chance
To sing and dance
For work and play don't mix
(instrumental)
Fifer and Fiddler Pig: He don't take no time to play
Time to play, time to play
All he does is work all day
Practical Pig: You can play and laugh and fiddle
Don't think you can make me sore
I'll be safe and you'll be sorry
When the Wolf comes to your door!
Fifer and Fiddler Pig: *giggle*
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
Big Bad Wolf, Big Bad Wolf?
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
(instrumental)
(repeat verse in Sing Along Songs version)
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
Big Bad Wolf, Big Bad Wolf?
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
Fifer Pig: I'll punch him in the nose!
Fiddler Pig: I'll tie him in a knot!
Fifer Pig: I'll kick him in the shin!
Fifer and Fiddler Pig: We'll put him on the spot
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
Big Bad Wolf, Big Bad Wolf?
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
(repeated verses twice when the Wolf stalks Fifer and Fiddler Pig being disguised as a sheep until they escape from the Wolf into the brick house)
Practical Pig: See, I told you what would happen
When that Big Wolf came around
Only bricks and stones are wolf-proof
Now at last, you're safe and sound!
The Three Little Pigs: (altogether) Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
Big Bad Wolf, Big Bad Wolf?
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
(knocking verse; the Big Bad Wolf appears disguised as a salesman only for Practical Pig to find out his true identity; instrumental verse ends with the Big Bad Wolf being foiled by Practical Pig's plan in using turpentine oil on the boiling pot to foil the Wolf)
Fifer and Fiddler Pig: *giggle*
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
Big Bad Wolf, Big Bad Wolf?
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
(ends with the Three Little Pigs hearing knocking again, much to Fifer and Fiddler Pig fearing that the Wolf is back again)
Verse
Long ago, there were three pigs,
little handsome piggy-wigs.
For the big, very big, very bad wolf,
they didn't give three figs.
Number one was very gay
and he built his house with hay.
With a hey, hey, toot,
he blew on his flute and he played around all day.
Number two was fond of jigs and so
he built his house with twigs.
Hi-diddle-diddle, he played on his
fiddle and danced with lady pigs.
Number three said, "Nicks on tricks!
I'll build my house with bricks!"
He had no chance to sing and dance
'Cause work and play don't mix
Chorus
Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?
The big bad wolf, the big bad wolf?
Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?
Tra-la-la-la-la!
[Kelly]

And the wolf blew into town
With a gruff puff puff, he puffed just enough, and the hay house fell right down (Blew it down)
One and Two were scared to death, of the big bad wolfy's breath
By the hair of your chinny chin chin I blow you in
And the twig house answered "yes", huh

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf, the big bad wolf, the big bad wolf (Big bad wolf)
Who's afraid of the big bad wolf, we ain't ant afraid y'all, we ain't afraid (Who's afraid of him)
[Verse 4 (Kelly)]
They were left with Number Three, to save the pigs' family
When they knocked, he fastened unlocked, and he said come here with me (Come here with me)
Now they're all safe inside, and the bricks heard wolfy's cried
So he slid down the chimney, and oh by Jimmy, and the fire, and he was fried, yeah
