Critical reception[]

Weird World 3 received mixed-negative reviews. It's voice performances, villains and animation were all mostly praised. However, it's writing, humour and lack of emotion, suspense and character development (plus some of the characters acting out of character) received some criticism and the film overall has been considered weak and a huge disappointment compared to the other films and the TV series, which were mostly met with universal acclaim. It was also criticised for it's ending (which even Reloaxa admitted to not being happy with), it's wasted potential and for having many similarities in the story to the first film. The review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes reports that 34% of critics gave the film a positive review based on 213 reviews, with an average score of 5.9/10. The site's consensus states: "While the animation and voice performances may shine as always, the story, humour and lack of emotion leave Weird World 3 way behind the rest of the franchise." It is the first and so far only Reloaxa-directed movie to be certified “Rotten”. Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 from top reviews from mainstream critics, calculated a score of 47 based on 53 reviews, indicating "mixed or average reviews." In CinemaScore polls, cinema audiences gave Weird World 3 an average score of "B" on an A+ to F scale.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only Weird World movie Axebot doesn’t appear in.
  • The film was originally meant to be titled "Weird World 3: Earthbound", but there were concerns of misleading the audience since Earth isn't a setting for very long in the film.
