Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. He learns of a contract clause where he can be released from his duties as Santa if another man is willing to succeed him. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

This makes The Santa Clause the second Walt Disney Pictures franchise with a continuation produced under the 20th name after 20th Century Studios had distributed The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
It is also the second 20th Century production to serve as a continuation or revival adaptation to one of Disney's properties, albeit from the Walt Disney Pictures library, after Turner & Hooch (which was based on a Touchstone Pictures film).
The series was originally titled The Clauses.
Tim Allen's daughter Elizabeth Allen-Dick plays one of Scott Calvin's children Sandra Calvin.[6]
