"The Accidental Avalanche" is the fifty-eighth episode of the Disney Junior animated series The Lion Guard. It premired on September 8, 2019 and is the third episode in the third season.
Climbing up a mountain, Kion tells the Lion Guard to be careful due to the steepness of the mountain. Makini doesn't remember having to climb a mountain the first time to get to the Tree of Life, to which Ono says that the map in the Lair of the Lion Guard shows a path around the mountain to the marsh. Soon as Kion tries to go over the mountain, he and the Lion Guard begin slipping off the mountain due to the steepness as Beshte saves them from falling while Anga saves Ono after being knocked midair. Soon as Kion continues the plan, Fuli suggests going around the mountain would be easier to which he tells her it would take too long. Makini then tells Kion and Fuli to ask a family of snow monkeys in a hot spring if they know a shortcut to the Tree of Life.
Anga then decides to ask the snow monkeys a shortcut, but Ono started knowing that snow monkeys are sensitive of large birds. Ono tells Anga to stop, but fails to. The snow monkeys notice Anga approaching them thinking she is attacking them as Anga returns to the Lion Guard telling them they don't want to talk to large birds or any other predators. Kion tells Bunga to stop delaying to which Makini suggests some Tuliza for Kion to which she finds no Tuliza inside her gourd. Kion then suggests that instead of going over the mountain, they can go through it by using the Roar of the Elders. Fuli tries to warn Kion about using the Roar but Kion takes risk of using it in order to get through the mountain to get to the next stone, not noticing the snow monkeys nearby.
Meanwhile, an avalanche begins occurring as Anga sees the avalanche approaching to which Fuli tells Kion that the snow monkeys are in the avalanche's path. Anga decides to keep Ono and Makini safe from the avalanche while the rest of the Guard hurries off to the snow monkeys who are escaping from the avalanche as they manage to rescue them from being covered up by the avalanche. Kion then tells the snow monkeys to know if they are all right to which the Guard and the snow monkeys are safe. Yuki, a snow monkey matriarch, gets frightened upon seeing Anga to which Kion tells the snow monkeys that Anga is not hostile but rather friendly while Yuki tells Kion to tell Anga to stop staring at them. Ono then explains that snow monkeys are sensitive to eagles staring at them. Yuki thanks them for saving her family from the avalanche but she is worried that the avalanche is covering the hot springs due to Kion's plan on going through the mountain. Kion apologizes for his action as the Guard plans to find a new home for the snow monkeys.
Kion tells Yuki to know what she and her family want for a new home to which she sings that a new home should have snow, food, and hot water in a simple task. For hot water, the snow monkeys find them in the hot springs and for food, the snow monkeys eat roots and some kind of flower they find along many others they want. After singing about a new home for them, the Lion Guard plans to find them a new hot spring to which the snow monkeys request that a hot spring should have no trees because with trees, large birds live there to stare at snow monkeys. Kion tells Anga to show how nice a large bird can be to which the eagle sees a hot spring surrounded by trees from a distance. As Fuli tells Kion about the scar bothering him, the rest of the Guard and the snow monkeys decide to follow Kion to the hot spring Anga saw.
Following Anga to the hot spring she pointed to, Yuki is extremely excited that the hot spring they found is bigger than the other one though with trees surrounding it. Hitashi, Yuki's wife, suggests that his family should try the new home first before moving to a new one to which they enjoy spending time at the new home. Meanwhile, the snow monkeys become frightened when they notice flying creatures around their new home. It is then revealed that the "birds" are actually flying squirrels which are actually mammals. Kion explains to Tafu, one of the flying squirrels, to know why they are attacking the snow monkeys to which he explains that the flying squirrels are supposed to be greeting the snow monkeys. Tafu then tells the flying squirrels to stop scaring the snow monkeys to which Bunga decides to put him down so that Tafu can return to his home in one of the trees.
Meanwhile, Kion tells the snow monkeys they can finally relax that the airborne animals are actually flying squirrels until he discovers that they are gone. Kion then tells Anga to know where have they went until she notices them fall deeper. Kion then tells the Guard to find the snow monkeys who have disappeared. Bunga then falls into the snow where the snow monkeys are at to which Anga spots a hole in the snow by a big tree caused by Bunga. Ono then warns that the snow around the tree can caused them to fall deeper if they climb out in time. Makini then tells Bunga and the snow monkeys to stay still because if they keep moving, the snow could be deeper. Bunga and the snow monkeys try to escape but they fall deeper. Fuli suggests Anga should rescue them but Anga refuses to at first. Anga then decides to rescue the animals trapped under the snow telling them to be safe as the snow monkeys trust her so she could rescue them. Anga then rescues the snow monkeys and Bunga from the big hole. Having rescued them, Yuki praises Anga for rescuing her family as Kion tells Anga to find a new home for the snow monkeys. Finally finding a new home for the monkeys, Anga finds Tuliza for Kion and another moja kwa moja stone around the slope. Fuli suggests Kion for the Lion Guard to keep going to which she explains they are having fun with the snow monkeys before they continue their journey.
This is the first time Kion uses the Roar of the Elders out of control, due to him being inflicted with a venomous scar caused by Ushari in the Season 3 premiere.
This episode introduces snow monkeys and flying squirrels, both species native to Japan.
Historically, when The Lion King was released in Japan, it caused a large controversy across Japan for being a copy of "Kimba the White Lion" by Osamu Tezuka.
