Susan Abigail Sarandon (née Tomalin) is an American actress, voice actress, producer, and activist, who is well known for her roles as Sally Matthews in the 1980 romantic crime film, Atlantic City, Louise Sawyer in Ridley Scott's 1991 female buddy adventure film, Thelma & Louise, Michaela Odone in George Miller's 1992 drama film, Lorenzo's Oil, Regina "Regie" Love in Joel Schumacher's 1994 legal thriller film, The Client, and Sister Helen Prejean in Tim Robbins's 1995 crime drama film, Dead Man Walking, in which she nabbed four Academy Award nominations and with the latter role earning Sarandon an Academy Award for Best Actress. She also voiced Coco LaBouche in the Nickelodeon film, Rugrats in Paris and Mrs. Joyce Clark in Our Friend, Martin. Sarandon's other notable roles include Miller's 1987 dark fantasy-comedy film, The Witches of Eastwick, the 1988 romantic comedy sports film, Bull Durham, Gillian Armstrong's 1994 coming-of-age historical drama film, Little Women, Peter Jackson's 2009 supernatural drama film, The Lovely Bones, and the 2012 epic science fiction film, Cloud Atlas.
For Disney, she voiced Miss Spider in the 1996 live-action/stop-motion film, James and the Giant Peach, and both voiced and portrayed Queen Narissa in the 2007 animated/live-action film, Enchanted. She also played Margherita Sarfatti in the 1999 Touchstone Pictures film, Cradle Will Rock and Beverly Clark in the 2004 Miramax film, Shall We Dance?.
Known for her social and political activism, and causes, Sarandon was appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1999 and received the Action Against Hunger Humanitarian Award in 2006.
