"Stand by Me" is a song originally performed by Ben E. King and written by King, Jerry Leiber, and Mike Stoller, inspired by the spiritual "Lord Stand by Me", plus two lines rooted in Psalms 46:2–3. It is from King's album Don't Play That Song!, released in 1961. There have been over 400 recorded versions of the song.
In a music video that aired as part of the thirteenth episode of Timon & Pumbaa, the song is performed by Timon and the trio of frogs, as the meerkat states how happy he will be as long as he has Pumbaa by his side. Every time he sings the song's title, various unfortunate events happen to Pumbaa every time, which Timon never notices.[1] The music video was produced and directed by Steve Moore and aired on October 28, 1995, alongside "Don't Break the China" and "Can't Take a Yolk".
When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No, I won't be afraid
Oh, I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me
So darlin', darlin'
Stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand, stand by me
Stand by me
If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry
No, I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me
And darlin', darlin'
Stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand now, stand by me
Stand by me
Darlin', darlin'
Stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand now, stand by me
Stand by me
Whenever you're in trouble, won't you stand by me?
Oh, stand by me
Won't you stand now?
Oh, stand, stand by me
Frogs:
Rum dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum

Trivia[]
The music video played in theaters as a short film before Tom and Huck in December 1995, making it Disney's shortest theatrical short film in history (with a running time of three and a half minutes).
This segment also appeared at the start of the VHS tapes Mickey Loves Minnie, The Best of Roger Rabbit, The Big Green, and A Kid in King Arthur's Court.[2][3][4][5]
The segment marked Disney Television Animation's first production outside of Disneytoon Studios to be made with digital ink and paint, comparing to all of the other Timon & Pumbaa episodes, which were made with traditional cel animation.
In fact, it was the shortest theatrical animated family short film overall until it was surpassed by Nickelodeon's SpongeBob: Order Up! in 2025 (30 years later).
The song is also performed by Big Mean Carl in a 2010 viral video posted on The Muppets' YouTube channel. In the video, Carl, dressed as a bunny, sings the song to attract some rabbits, then smacks them with his oversized carrot and eats them. However, the bunnies, still alive and well in Carl's stomach, start singing the song, much to Carl's annoyance, though he eventually grooves along to their singing with one last rabbit (which he also eats at the end of the song). Also the song was performed by Bachata American singer Prince Royce in the same year.
