1994[]

Sonic the Hedgehog began development in 1994 following the success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, though the movie would be drastically different from what was seen in the final cut. Originally pitched by Yuji Naka himself, the original concept of the movie would have been a retelling of the events of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic CD, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in animated form. When Mr, Naka had travelled to the Disney offices in America he talked to Walt Disney about the idea of making an animated film based off his video game series, and began to propose a couple storylines that could fit into the disney style without having to sacrifice the established canon in the Japanese lore of Sonic the hedgehog.

The first meeting was held in June 21st, 1994 between Walt's animation team and Yuji Naka
