Nalo is the main antagonist in Disney's 2024 animated feature film Moana 2. He is an envious storm god who has cursed and guards the mysterious island of Motufetu for centuries with a menacing storm barrier of clouds, lightning and tornadoes. Nalo is also described as a substantially more fearsome threat than what Moana has faced before.[1] It is said that Nalo gains strength and power by severing the connection of the people of the ocean.
Nalo shares similarities with Tāwhirimātea, the Polynesian god of weather and storms.
His tornado appearance also has a similarity to Stratos from Hercules.
Nalo is the first main antagonist in the Moana franchise who speaks, distinguishing him from Te Kā, the main antagonist of the first film, who was non-verbal.
Te Kā herself was indirectly mentioned by Maui when he and Moana faced Nalo.
