Synopsis[]
Marvel Studios' Ms. Marvel is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega-fan with an oversized imagination — particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels invisible both at home and at school — that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she's always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?
Plot[]
Kamala Khan is an average Pakistani-American teenager in Jersey City who feels that her life is of unrelenting sameness. She relies on her science-savvy friend Bruno Carrelli and Nakia Bahadir for comfort and her family who are supportive of her, but strong in their traditions. Kamala loves superheroes and is especially a fan of Captain Marvel, whom she admires. Wanting to attend AvengerCon, Kamala asks her parents if she can go, but they, or more specifically her mother Muneeba, refuses. Her brother Aamir manages to talk to them, but when they insist that they go with her and have her dress as the Hulk instead, she becomes angry and is once again not permitted. Kamala instead sneaks out with Bruno while also taking a bangle that Muneeba seems particularly offended by.
At the convention, Kamala discovers that the bangle gives her powers and she ends up rescuing Zoe Zimmer, a popular girl from school. Bruno helps her figure out what kind of powers she has, which in this case is to make hard light. Kamala meets a boy named Kamran, whom she immediately falls for, much to Bruno's displeasure, and who later reveals that he is part of a group called the Clandestines lead by his mother Najma. They came from another dimension of Djinn who have been trying to find a way home and Kamala's great grandmother Aisha was one of them. Kamala is ecstatic at the news, but realizes that their plan to open the veil to the Djinn dimension will result in Earth possibly getting destroyed.
The Clandestine are captured by Damage Control while Kamala escapes from them. She is later informed by her grandmother Sana Ali about a shared vision they had and asks her to come to Karachi. Kamala and Muneeba arrive where the former meets their native hero Red Dagger who tells her of an ongoing war between the Daggers and the Clandestine. The Clandestine themselves escape Damage Control, but Najma chooses to leave Kamran behind due to his weakening support. They arrive in Karachi to claim the bangle and fight Kamala and Red Dagger. During the scuffle, Kamala's bangle activates, resulting in her being sent back in time to when Sana Ali was a toddler and meets a dying Aisha who was betrayed by Najma for leaving them. She rescues Sana during the partition.
Kamala returns and the veil opens, but it kills anyone who comes in contact with it. Realizing it is hopeless, Najma sacrifices herself and sends her energy to Kamran; imbuing him similar powers to Kamala. He goes on the run and meets up with Bruno for help. Kamala returns home with her whole family now aware of her superpowers and is given a brand new costume. Kamala, Bruno, Kamran, Nakia, Zoe and Aamir all meet at the school to fend off Damage Control's corrupt agent Sadie Deever who wants them taken in. The fight rages on outside when Kamran is angered to learn that his mother has died, but Kamala comforts him and allows him to escape to the docks so that he can get rescued by the Daggers. The Jersey City residents stand up for Kamala as Deever is relieved of duty by Agent Cleary.
Kamala is happily embraced by the community and has a conversation with her father Yusuf who reveals that her name Kamala comes from "Kamal" which in Urdu means "Marvel". Now calling herself Ms. Marvel, Kamala vows to protect the city. One week later, Kamala is hanging out with Nakia and Bruno, the latter of whom is leaving for Cal Tech. Bruno reveals that he had been running diagnostics on Kamala and discovered that the bangle is not giving her powers, but rather pulling something out of her; referring to it as a "mutation". Kamala throws caution to the wind so that they can have fun. In a mid-credits scene, Kamala returns home tired when she is suddenly pulled away by a strong force and replaced with Carol Danvers who reacts in shock.
