Based on Marvel's hit comic books, "Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur" follows the adventures of 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette and her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur. After Lunella accidentally brings Devil Dinosaur into present-day New York City via an interdimensional portal, the duo works together to protect the city's Lower East Side from danger.
The soundtrack to the series was released the day of the series premiere and features music from various artists including Diamond White, the voice of Moon Girl. One of the songs featured is a cover of Bill Withers' "Just the Two of Us".
Episode director Christine Liu was a storyboard artist for an episode of Marvel's Spider-Man.
One of the guest stars is Michael Cimino. Coincidentally, he also voices Kevin in Hamster & Gretel, another superhero-themed Disney TVA that airs concurrently with Moon Girl.
Maya Hawke is among the series' guest stars. Her father, Ethan Hawke, portrayed Arthur Harrow In Moon Knight.
While this is the first co-production between Disney TVA and Marvel, this isn't the first collaboration between both; Marvel Comics previously published comics based on series from The Disney Afternoon, such as Aladdin and Gargoyles.
This is the first Disney series in which Diamond White plays the protagonist.
This is the second show (after some episodes of What If...?) to be animated by the Belgian-owned Australian production company Flying Bark Productions.
This is the second Disney Channel animated series in which has a "African-American" for the main protagonist, first series being The Proud Family & it's reboot.
This is the third Disney Channel animated series that originally premiered on a Friday, but then would later premiere future episodes on Saturdays, following The Ghost and Molly McGee and Hamster & Gretel.
The series uses several design assets from the cancelled Cars spin-off Metro, which series developer Steve Loter and composer Raphael Saadiq were involved with.
This, Hamster & Gretel and Hailey’s On It are the last DTVA animated shows to feature serialized elements and story arcs, due to the announcement on October 2021 that Disney Television Animation would be moving story-driven shows away from Disney Channel (future story-driven shows will be on Disney+ instead) and move onto more episodic-musical shows.
This is overall the 9th series by DTVA to be serialized/story-driven.
Following the episode "Today, I Am a Woman", Steve Loter was asked if the series is canon with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he responded with a zipped lip emoji.[4] He later admitted that while the series is not directly tied to the MCU, it will continue to borrow heavy elements.[5]
The overall look of the show was inspired by pop art and graffiti, specifically those inspired by Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Keith Haring.[6]
Steve Loter hinted that the series might crossover, not just with other Marvel characters, but other Disney Television animation shows as well.[5]
This is the first animated Marvel show since Hit-Monkey to not receive LEGOsets.
