Moon Girl (real name Lunella Lafayette) is a superhero from Marvel Comics. She makes her debut as the eponymous protagonist of the Disney Channel series, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. She has a brilliant scientific mind that lets her invents gadgets that she uses to fight crime and protect the innocent.
Moon Girl was created by Amy Reeder, Brandon Montclare, and Natacha Bustos.

Described as one of the smartest people in the Marvel Universe (which as we know is saying a lot), 13-year-old Lunella Lafayette protects her beloved Lower East Side community as the roller-skating, gadget wielding superhero known as Moon Girl.
Personality[]
Lunella is a fun, yet down-to-earth teenager with a knack for inventing and building things. While she is highly intelligent, usually ranked as being the smartest person in the Marvel Universe, she does not let this get to her head as she wisely uses her brains to fix other people's problems ahead of her own. Her most important thing are her family and friends. She loves her parents and grandparents unconditionally and deeply cares for her best friends Casey and Devil Dinosaur.
While she does not have a large ego, Lunella is shown to be slightly self-conscious of her appearance and will take drastic measures usually to justify or fix an issue. She also enjoys getting a lot of attention as her superhero persona that she will sometimes fail to notice certain things. She is very reliant on those around her and is not afraid to ask a question, under the guise of a regular problem, from her family.
Physical appearance[]
Lunella is a short, adorable 13-year-old girl of Haitian descent who is easily recognized by her large bushy, pom-pom hairstyle. Her clothing mainly consists of large round violet glasses, a black t-shirt with red and white accents and long white undersleeves, a belt over a pink skirt and long denim jeans, and large black, white, and pink tennis shoes.
When adorned in her Moon Girl costume, she wears black spandex and a yellow and cyan vest and shorts over them, emblazoned with a small crescent moon on her chest. She wears red gloves and big black rollerblade boots with yellow laces and, to go with them, cyan and yellow knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet. She also wears cyan goggles with red lenses on them that project symbols based on how she is feeling. Additionally, she wears a cyan backpack that can change into a jetpack.
Abilities and weapons[]
Being one of the smartest people in the Marvel Universe, Lunella has genius level intellect and can build and design anything she puts her mind to. She is apparently capable of building simple things such as an automatic hands-free tooth brush (as seen in the show's intro), to something as complex as a giant interdimensional portal.
Among the items she is carries with her include:
- Rollerblades: allows for easy and quick transport.
- Boxing glove: used only for when she needs to perform any physical combat.
- Jetpack: allows her to fly when necessary.
Additionally, Lunella is a fast learner, as she was able to learn "Dinosaur-ian" and can understand Devil Dinosaur fluently.

Lunella in Web Slingers
A Marvel Theme Park Universe version of Lunella appears as a WEB recruit in Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure[1], developing the WEB Vision Goggles for the attraction's SLING-R vehicles.
The expanded material for the ride establishes that she somehow lost Devil Dinosaur and has numerous missing posters asking if anyone has seen him. This version is established as being an inhuman (just like her comic book counterpart), but only has enhanced intelligence and no mention of her psychic link to Devil Dinosaur.
The TV series' incarnation of Lunella appeared as a limited-time meet-and-greet character at the Disney California Adventure's Avengers Campus through February 2023, as a celebration of the Black History Month.[2][3]

- In the comics, it is established that Lunella is an Inhuman with the ability to switch minds with Devil Dinosaur, but only when the two are equally hungry. She also encountered the Killer-Folk when meeting Devil Dinosaur, though this part is excluded from the television series.
- The explanation for Moon Girl is different from both the series and comic. In the comic, Lunella is nicknamed Moon Girl by her peers because of her tendency to space out, while in the series, it is a nickname that she gave to a mysterious scientist whom she admired and takes for herself.
- Lunella is aged up from the comics, going from a 9-year-old to a 13-year-old, most likely to give the character wider appeal.
- Lunella was envisioned as being similar to Inspector Gadget, due to her constant use of machines she invents.[4]
- Lunella is the first African-American teenage girl to be the lead character in a Marvel animated show.
- Lunella is Diamond White's first protagonist role in a Disney series.
- Despite being called Moon Girl, Lunella admits that the moon is in her top five celestial bodies, implying that it is not her absolute favorite.
- Lunella's closet door has her name spelled out with the elements of the periodic table. They are Lutetium (LU, 71), Neon (NE, 10), and Lanthanum (LA, 57). Lutetium and Lanthanum are metals, while Neon is a gas.
