Lupita Amondi Nyong'o is a Mexican-born Kenyan actress and filmmaker of dual Kenyan and Mexican citizenship. She is best known for her performance as Patsey in Steve McQueen's 2013 critically acclaimed historical drama film, 12 Years a Slave, for which she earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

For Disney, she portrayed Maz Kanata via Motion capture, in J.J. Abrams's 2015 film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens (for which she reprised the role in Rian Johnson's 2017 film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Abrams's 2019 film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as well as in the 2017 television series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny), and she provided the voice of Raksha in Jon Favreau's 2016 live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book. She also played Harriet Mutesi in Queen of Katwe, and Nakia in Ryan Coogler's 2018 Marvel superhero film, Black Panther and made an appearance in the Disney+ visual album, Black Is King.
