An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.
Obi-Wan Kenobi

The lightsaber, also referred to as a laser sword, is a plasma-bladed weapon in the Star Wars universe. It consists of a polished metal hilt which projects a laser based beam of energy generated from the kyber crystal that serves as the blade's energy source. The lightsaber is the signature weapon of both the Jedi and the Sith, both of whom can use it for close-range combat to deflect blaster bolts and more.

Usage[]

The lightsaber's blade can burn and cut through most substances without resistance. It leaves cauterized wounds or burns in flesh, but can be deflected by another lightsaber's blade, or by energy shields. In addition, some exotic saber-proof materials, such as Phrik, Cortosis, or Beskar, have been introduced in the Expanded Universe. An active lightsaber gives off a distinctive hum, which rises or lowers in pitch and volume as the blade is moved rapidly through the air. Some lightsabers have higher or lower pitched hums than what is considered typical. Bringing the blade into contact with an object or another lightsaber's blade produces a loud crackle. The lightsaber is designed as much for elegance in combat as for ceremony, the lightsaber was a distinctive weapon, the very image of which was inextricably bound with the mythos of the Jedi Order and their polar opposites, the Sith. The lightsaber also became synonymous with the Jedi Order's values to uphold peace and justice throughout the galaxy. This perception endured, despite the many conflicts with lightsaber-wielding Sith Lords and Dark Jedi.

The weapon consists of a smooth, solid, laser-like blade comprised of pure plasma emitted from the hilt and suspended in a force containment field. The field contains the immense heat of the plasma, protecting the wielder, and allows the blade to keep its shape. The hilt is almost always self-fabricated by the wielder to match his or her specific needs, preferences, and style. Due to the weightlessness of blade and the strong gyroscopic effect generated by it, lightsabers require a great deal of strength and dexterity to wield, and it is extremely difficult - and dangerous - for the untrained to attempt using one, especially in combat. The blades of some lightsabers such as the Darksaber feel heavy in spite of their weightless energy blades, and it takes great skill and practice to overcome this, as energy constantly flows through the cyber crystals powering the blade. As a result, using a lightsaber such as the Darksaber isn't so much fighting with a blade as directing a current of power; one controlled by the wielder's thoughts and actions, which are converted into energy that flowed through the crystal and become part of the blade itself. When practiced with, such a lightsaber will slowly connect with its wielder, becoming an extension of their body and will. In the hands of an expert of the Force or one who understands this concept, the lightsaber is a weapon to be greatly respected and feared. To wield a lightsaber is to demonstrate incredible skill and confidence, as well as masterful dexterity and attainment to the Force.

Lightsabers are powered by kyber crystals, the color of which also usually determined the color of the weapon's blade. However, if infected with the dark side of the Force, as revealed in Ahsoka, kyber crystals will turn red, using a technique known as "making the crystal bleed". The process can also be reversed by purifying the crystal with the light side of the Force, turning them white.

A crossguard lightsaber.

Kylo Ren, from the sequel trilogy, utilizes a lightsaber design that features two energy crossguards, giving it the appearance of a sword. The lightsaber's blade funnels like fire and is outlined with red static electricity instead of solidifying into the smooth, laserbeam-like blade, as typical lightsabers possess. The reason for this is that Kylo Ren's lightsaber utilizes a cracked and damaged kyber crystal, and the resulting instability of the blade necessitates vents and focusing crystal activators to channel the weapon's excess energy, creating the quillons (crossguards). His blade has a similar appearance to a lightsaber blade emitted using a compressed or unstable synthetic lightsaber crystal, such of which were seen in the "Legends Continuity" of the Expanded Universe.

During High Republic Era, Jedi starfighters known as the Jedi Vector featured lightsaber-activated weapon systems, which could only be accessed if a Lightsaber was placed on an activation panel in the cockpit.

Known Types of Lightsabers[]

  • Standard lightsaber: A standard lightsaber consists of a straight hilt and is single-bladed. It is the most common type of lightsaber.
  • Double-bladed lightsaber: A double-bladed lightsaber features a blade emitted from both ends. It is similar to a quarterstaff. Notable users include Darth Maul, his brother, Savage Opress, the Jedi Temple Guards, and Jaro Tapal.
    • Hinged double-bladed lightsaber: A hinged double-bladed lightsaber was effectively two single-blade lightsabers joined together by a hinge at their pommels. Notable users include Pong Krell, the Jedi Temple Guards (in a vision), and Dark Side Rey (in a vision).
    • Double-bladed spinning lightsaber: A double-bladed spinning lightsaber is a specially-designed model that is capable of both single and double blades, besides being able of spinning in a circular motion when both of them are emitted. The overall design hardly makes it any bigger than a single-emitter lightsaber, a stark contrast to the design of dual-blade weapons. It can also be utilized for flight, given the high speed of its spinning capabilities. The lightsaber does suffer from a design flaw: if given the opening, an opponent can cut through the disc from the inside of the ring, causing the weapon to fly apart if spinning. This variation also can allow its user to fly by using the lightsaber blades as helicopter rotors. All Inquisitors use this type of lightsaber.
    • Split saber: A split saber is a type of double-bladed lightsaber that can split into two single-bladed lightsabers, effectively being two normal lightsabers that can interlock their hilts together. Asajj Ventress is the most notable user of this variant. Cal Kestis also made a split saber after damaging his previous weapon. The Sith known as The Stranger had a unique split saber that was primary a single-blade with an elongated hilt, which could be split into a full-sized lightsaber and a shoto lightsaber.
  • Dual-phase lightsaber: A dual-phase lightsaber is similar to a standard one, only that it contains two or more kyber crystals, allowing its blade length and width to be adjusted. Darth Vader's lightsaber is of this variant. It is also used by Dooku.
  • Crossguard lightsaber: A crossguard lightsaber is an ancient design with one or two blades emitter protruding near the first one at a 45-degree or 90-degree angle to the axis of the hilt. The second and third blades are dagger-sized, making it look similar in appearance to a knight's broadsword. Lightsabers with unstable or damaged crystals, like Kylo Ren's, require crossguards to vent the excess energy emitted by the main blade and keep the weapon from overloading. Crossguard lightsabers are one of the most ancient design variations seen in lightsabers, as they date back thousands of years.
  • Curved-hilt lightsaber: A curved-hilt lightsaber is a design which features a hilt with a built in curve, it is design to utilize one-handed fighting styles such as Makashi, or to provide variable blade angles to confuse opponents. It is similar to swords such as the foil, cutlass or rapier. Dooku and Asajj Ventress are the most notable users of this variant.
  • Great lightsaber: A great lightsaber, or lightclub, is a oversized lightsaber built for use by large individuals. As such, they were heavy, often awkward and difficult to use, and they featured reinforced hilts with heavy-duty power and emitter systems which made a blade that were longer than two meters in length.
  • Shoto lightsaber: A shoto lightsaber is short and similar to a dagger or analogous to the real-life Wakizashi short sword used by Samurai warriors. Yoda carries a shoto lightsaber. Many Jedi, such as Ahsoka Tano, also use it as a support weapon in their off-hand. Most Jedi use shoto lightsabers in dual-lightsaber combat.
    • Guard shoto: A guard shoto is a regular lightsaber hilt set at a 90-degree angle to the blade, which allowed the wielder to quickly change from attacking to defense, and with one movement; block an attack and counter attack.
  • Lightwhip: A Lightwhip is a heavily modified lightsaber variant with one or more plasma blades in flexible containment shields. Due to the blades' flexibility, they required more care of use than a regular lightsaber, and had less cutting power. The Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh added this model to her lightsaber.
  • Lightsaber pike: A lightsaber pike is similar to a double-bladed lightsaber, featuring two shorter-than-average plasma blades on each side of the pike. The hilts are longer and thicker while the blades are shorter than normal double-bladed lightsabers and are similar to a staff or a lance. Jedi Temple Guards use this variant, along with a collapsable variation. The Sith Lord Darth Bane also had a lightsaber pike (which resembles a spear) that ignites a flat orange blade when activated.
  • Lightsaber-blaster hybrid: A lightsaber-blaster hybrid combines both the titular energy sword and a blaster pistol. The only known lightsaber-blaster hybrid belonged to Ezra Bridger, prior to it being destroyed by Darth Vader. It is unknown if a regular blaster bolt can be fired since Ezra incorporated a stun blaster in his.
  • Cane lightsaber: A cane lightsaber, or sabercane, is concealed as the head of a cane and is similar to a walking stick. In combat, the handle is detached from the body of the cane and wielded normally. Cane-disguised lightsabers are usually used by elderly lightsaber duelists, like Tera Sinube and Maul.
  • Lightfoil: A lightfoil is a small lightsaber that boasted a one-handed hilt and generated a slim plasma blade.
  • Battle saber: A Battle saber is a type of lightsaber constructed by the Jedi Order in the Jedi Temple armory. These lightsabers were designed to be simplistic, not much different from a simple cylindrical metal hilt, and to be quickly produced and in large numbers if need-be, most often in cases of galactic emergencies.
  • Training lightsaber: A training lightsaber has limited power and thus limited the danger of them being used by Jedi Initiates before they underwent the Gathering, or are assigned or selected by a Jedi Knight or Jedi Master and build a weapon of their own. They are lightsabers that possessed a highly intensified electromagnetic containment field which is far more difficult to penetrate than that of a standard lightsaber. Thus the energy which formed the blade is better contained and able to do far less damage, and would result in welts, bruises, and minor burns instead of amputation or death. This feature could be readjusted by a fully trained Jedi to enable a Jedi Knight or Jedi Master to utilize a trainee's weapon in emergencies.
    • Holographic lightsaber: A Holographic lightsaber a type of training lightsaber used in Jedi training. It consisted of a larger than average lightsaber hilt projecting a thick yellow blade which the trainee had to deflect in accordance with saberfighting techniques. The holographic saber could record the hits it took during the session and display them for the Jedi Master to judge their trainee's success.
  • The Darksaber: The Darksaber is a rare black-bladed lightsaber that is flattened and comes to a point like a traditional sword, rather than the rounded beam of more standard lightsabers and its hilt was made of beskar (a lightsaber-proof metal). This lightsaber variant is an ancient design. The only known example of this currently belongs to Bo-Katan Kryze after she inhertied it after becoming leader of Mandalore. Pre Vizsla, one of its previous owners, is a descendant of Mandalorian Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi Order who created it. Following Tarre's passing, the weapon was kept in the Coruscant Jedi Temple until it was stolen by members of House Vizsla during the Fall of the Old Republic.
  • Lightsaber rifle: A lightsaber rifle is a type of blaster that lightsabers could be fit into to serve as the weapon's ammunition. When fired, the rifle turned the lightsaber's plasma blade into a devastating beam that is powerful enough to injure a heavily armored foe. Jocasta Nu obtained one such weapon and used it against Darth Vader when she attempted to recover a holocron from the destroyed Jedi Temple.

Known Lightsabers[]

  • Jedi lightsaber: A Jedi lightsaber is specialized and catered to the needs and preferences of the Jedi Order. This type of lightsabers utilize natural kyber crystals from caves and the like, while others utilizes synthetic kyber crystals (artificially created kyber crystals). The appearance of these lightsabers are designed to serve as a symbol of peace and justice, being them also a symbol of the Jedi. Traditionally, these weapons are all blue or green-bladed, although some of them are known to be yellow-green, yellow, purple, black (only one called the Darksaber, which was created by Tarre Vizsla), or white lightsabers . The white color of the blades is usually a result of healing kyber crystals infected with the dark side of the Force.
  • Sith lightsaber: A Sith lightsaber is specialized and catered to the needs and preferences of the Sith Order. Most of the lightsabers of this type utilize synthetic kyber crystals while others utilizes natural kyber crystals. The appearance of these lightsabers are designed to intimidate the opponents of the Sith, being them also a symbol of the Sith. Traditionally, they are all red-bladed lightsabers. Despite this, when Anakin Skywalker already had become Darth Vader, he kept using his blue-bladed Jedi lightsaber and used it to fight Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The red color of the blades is usually a result of infecting its kyber crystals with the dark side of the Force, which causes the crystal to "bleed".

Known Metal Alloys[]

Metal alloys that have been discovered or invented by both the Jedi and the Sith over the years and are used in the construction of their lightsabers. Most of these metal alloys have been seen or mentioned in the prequel trilogy, the original trilogy, the sequel trilogy, as well as in the animated series of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

  • Solid Heavy-Duty: Solid Heavy-Duty is a metal alloy that is used in lightsabers of duelists who favor maximum strength. This alloy is also extremely durable, but not as strong as Phrik. Anakin Skywalker used this alloy in the construction of his first and second blue-bladed lightsabers.
  • Chrome: Chrome is a metal alloy that is used in lightsabers of duelists who favor maximum speed and dexterity. This alloy is also extremely durable, but not as strong as Phrik. Yoda used this alloy in the construction of his own green-bladed shoto lightsaber.
  • Black Alloy: Black Alloy is an unnamed black metal alloy that might be combined with Solid Heavy-Duty to construct lightsabers. They are extremely durable, but not as strong as Phrik. Anakin Skywalker used this alloy in the construction of his first and second blue-bladed lightsabers as well as to build his red-bladed lightsaber after he became Darth Vader.
  • Phrik: Phrik is a rare and completely indestructible metal alloy used in the construction of lightsabers, allowing them to repel even the blades of other lightsabers. Sheev Palpatine used this metal to create his signature lightsabers, decorating them with Electrum and making them more sophisticated and elegant.
  • Electrum: Electrum is a rare metal alloy that is purely cosmetic, used in creating an aesthetically pleasing hilt for lightsabers. Sheev Palpatine, a known patron of the arts, used this alloy combined with Phrik in the construction of his two lightsabers to make them look more beautiful and elegant.
  • Beskar: Beskar is an extremely durable lightsaber-proof metal. Mandalorians are well known for using it to make their armor and weapons. Tarre Vizsla used Beskar to make the Darksaber's hilt.

Known Non-Metal Alloys[]

Non-metal alloys that have been discovered by both the Jedi and the Sith over the years and are used in the construction of their lightsabers. Most of these non-metal alloys have been seen or mentioned in the prequel trilogy, the original trilogy, the sequel trilogy, as well as in the animated series of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

  • Brylark tree: The Brylark trees have a type of wood that is strong as metal and is used in the construction of lightsabers. While this alloy is rarely used by most Jedi to build their lightsabers, they are commonly used by Wookiee Jedi since Brylark trees are located on the planet Kashyyyk.

Known Lightsaber Combat Forms[]

Lightsaber combat is fluid and graceful, and can be utilized against blasters, a feat normally too difficult for opponents that do not possess a connection to the Force. There are seven known lightsaber combat forms.

  • Form I/Shii-Cho: Shii-Cho is a lightsaber combat form that focuses on offensive styles and disarming opponents. It is the most basic lightsaber combat form that is taught to all Jedi.
  • Form II/Makashi: Makashi is a lightsaber combat form that focuses on careful and controlled strikes, instead of power and strength. Dooku is a particularly notable practitioner of this form.
  • Form III/Soresu: Soresu is a lightsaber combat form that focuses on defensive styles, instead of offense. Kanan Jarrus and Obi-Wan Kenobi are particularly notable practitioners of this form.
  • Form IV/Ataru: Ataru is a lightsaber combat form that focuses on acrobatic styles. It is useful for blocking blaster fire, but is best suited for open spaces and attacking. At some point during the Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker made some adjustments to Ataru intending to make it far more effective in defending against incoming projectiles or range attackers. Anakin, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Yoda are particularly notable practitioners of this form.
  • Form V/Shien/Djem So: Form V is a lightsaber combat form that that focuses on counter styles. Shien is useful in particular for countering ranged weaponry. On the other hand, Djem So focuses more on defending with solid blocks and parries, then immediately countering with strong counterattacks and ripostes, although it is also reasonably useful for blaster deflection. Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Luke Skywalker are particularly notable practitioners of this form.
  • Form VI/Niman: Niman is a lightsaber combat form that focuses on the practitioners channelling their Force powers via a lightsaber. It is the least physical of the lightsaber combat forms and is especially useful for those wielding double-bladed lightsabers. Maul is a particularly notable practitioner of this form.
  • Form VII/Juyo/Vaapad: Form VII is a lightsaber combat form that focuses on aggressive and brutal styles. Juyo not only focuses on aggressive offense, but it also requires the practitioners to actively draw upon their anger and negative emotions to fuel the relentless assault. Meanwhile, Vaapad focuses on the practitioners to drew on their anger and passion, but in a controlled way. This is the most unpredictable and aggressive lightsaber combat form, with elements comprised of both light and dark side emotions. Palpatine, Mace Windu, Depa Billaba, and Shaak Ti are particularly notable practitioners of this form.

Known Lightsaber Combat Styles[]

Lightsaber combat styles that have been invented by both the Jedi and the Sith over the years. Most of these styles are not actual part of the seven lightsaber combat forms, but were likely created to make the seven forms far more effective in combat. Most of them have been seen or mentioned in the prequel trilogy, the original trilogy, the sequel trilogy, as well as in the animated series of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

  • Sai cha: Sai cha is a style that is for the user to cut off the head from the opponent's body. Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano are particularly notable practitioners of the style.

  • Jar'Kai: Jar'Kai is a style that utilizes two lightsabers in combat. Asajj Ventress, General Grievous, and Ahsoka Tano are particularly notable practitioners of the style.
  • Sun djem: Sun djem is a style that is for the user to destroy or disarm the weapon of an opponent, usually without physically hurting them. Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Ezra Bridger are particularly notable practitioners of the style.
  • Shiim: Shiim is a style that is for the user to wound the opponent with the edge of his/her lightsaber's blade. Dooku and Asajj Ventress are particularly notable practitioners of the style.
  • Shiak: Shiak is a style that is for the user to stab the opponent in the chest. Sheev Palpatine, Pong Krell, Maul, Asajj Ventress, and Anakin Skywalker are particularly notable practitioners of the style.
  • Sai: Sai is a style that is for the user to evade an attack directed at his/her legs. Dooku and Luke Skywalker are particularly notable practitioners of the style.
  • Jung ma: Jung ma is a style that is for the user to perform a 360-degree spin, in which power is gained for an imminent attack on the opponent.
  • Tràkata: Tràkata is a style that is for the user to take advantage of a lightsaber's ability to be turned on and off, quickly shutting off then re-igniting the lightsaber blade can confuse the user's opponent. Ahsoka Tano is a particularly notable practitioners of the style.
  • Whirlwind of Destiny: Whirlwind of Destiny is a style that is for the user to be flexible, spinning his/her body and lightsaber around like an actual whirlwind. It was developed during the Clone Wars by Jedi youngling Petro probably to make Form V, far more effective in blocking multiple blaster bolts. Petro is a particularly notable practitioner of the style.

Behind the Scenes[]

Concepts[]

File:Darth Vader Concept.jpg

Early concept of the lightsabers by Ralph McQuarrie.

The lightsaber was originally inspired by many of the romantic Pirate and Swashbuckling films that George Lucas watched and enjoyed as a child, which featured many characters wielding swords. When he began conceiving Star Wars, he wished to include swords, creating the "lightsaber" to allow them to better mesh with the futuristic setting.

In the early incarnations of the Star Wars storyline, lightsabers were not exclusive to the Jedi and other Force-users, but were in fact very mundane. Early concept art depicts lightsabers being wielded by Rebel and Imperial soldiers alike. George Lucas later limited the lightsabers to exclusively the Jedi in order to make them feel more unusual, and heighten the mystique of the Jedi. Also, in early drafts of the script, lightsabers were referred to as "lazerswords."

File:Early Stormtrooper concept 1.jpg

Early concept of the Stormtroopers wielding lightsabers.

George was adamant that the lightsabers were really heavy and powerful, and had to be wielded with both hands. The actors had to work with them as if they were heavy. They were originally meant to be held with two hands. But over the years, the two handed form slowly became both a two and one handed form as the fighting sequences became faster and more intense.

For the prequel trilogy, choreographer Nick Gilliard developed the lightsaber combat into a more fluid and dynamic style. Gilliard described the fights as "a game of chess moving at a thousand miles an hour" and compared each move to a check. Ray Park, who portrayed Darth Maul in the films, would help him to further develop the choreography.

Visual Effects[]

The original effect of the lightsaber was a rotating pole that had movie screen material applied to it, then using a compact motor within the hilt, the rod would rapidly rotate, reflecting the lights on set, creating an in-camera glowing effect. However, the glowing effect was not absolute, whenever the actor moved it out of a certain area, the glow would disappear and the actual spinning rod could be seen. These props were also highly limited, as they were cumbersome and fragile, often breaking them during fight scenes. In order to partially compensate for this, the blade was rotoscoped and an animated glow was added by tracing onto a blown-up copy of the frame with pen and colored ink, one frame at a time. It was at this phase the blades were given colors, as the props were simple white blades.

File:TESB - Mark Hamill and Bob Anderson dueling.jpg

The lightsaber is part live-action and part animation, with the editors using the real poles to tell them where the sword blades were. Sometimes they used a short blade as the actors would be fighting so close that they would hit the set and sometimes they would use no blade, because the blade would either turn on and off in a shot or what the actors were doing was so complicated, they could not do with swords themselves and they would add in the blades later, but it took a lot of very careful tracking.

When filming on the Prequel trilogy began, the lightsaber blades for The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were made of steel and aluminum, which was highly durable, but frequently bent and flexed. When filming on Revenge of the Sith began, these blades were replaced by carbon fiber rods laminated with glass and plastic. These props were highly durable and did not flex, though they were extremely hard, and often caused bruising on the actors. While lightsaber effects were still done by rotoscoping, they were done digitally in the prequels, rather than by hand. In the sequel trilogy and onward, the lightsaber props used glowing blades. This not only added environmental realism that was desired by providing interactive lighting on the actors and the set, but also immersed the actors in the lightsaber experience, building on the performance and convincing nature of the lightsaber effect.

Sound Effects[]

The sound of the lightsabers were made by sound designer Ben Burtt, who also did the sound effects for R2-D2, the breathing of Darth Vader, and the blasters. His inspiration for the lightsaber sound came from his days as a projectionist when he was still a graduate student at USC (University of Southern California). There were these very old 35mm simplex projectors with inner locking motors. When they were idling, they produced these mysterious humming sounds that would slowly change in pitch, and it would beat against another motor. There were two motors and they would harmonize with each other, and that sound was the inspiration for the lightsabers. The buzzing sound combined with the humming was discovered by accident. Ben Burtt had a microphone with a broken mike cable (the shielding had come off), and he was recording something in the room of his apartment. When he passed his television set (which was on at the time without the sound turned up) with the microphone, it picked up the hum from the picture tube directly into the broken wire, creating the buzz that would be combined with the hum.

To achieve the sense of movement, Ben played the sound over a speaker and waved a shotgun microphone back and forth, producing a doppler effect that would become the sound of the lightsabers moving. The sound of dry ice reacting to metal was also used for both the "clashing" and "ignition" of the lightsabers, along with the sound of a suspended slinky, which was also used to create many of the blaster sound effects. A contact microphone would be attached to the slinky and that would pick up the sounds that travelled through the thin metal with reverb filter applied.

Trivia[]

  • Mace Windu became the first character with a purple lightsaber because Samuel L. Jackson wanted his character to have a distinctive lightsaber, so when watching the big battles in the Star Wars films, he'd be able to find himself easily.[1]
  • In the climax of the Bonkers episode "Springtime for the Iguana", Crunchy Potato Chip dueled Roderick Lizzard with a Weapon that looks very similar to a Lightsaber.
  • The word "lightsaber" is never spoken out loud in either The Phantom Menace or The Rise of Skywalker, with characters instead describing them with other terms, such as "laser sword" or simply "saber". Coincidentally, these are chronologically the first and last films in the series, respectively.
  • In the According to Jim episode The Nanny-Cam, Andy plays with a mop pretending it's a lightsaber, it's in reference to both Star Wars and the viral YouTube video Star Wars Kid.
  • In Star Wars: Visions, some of the lightsaber blades have katana styles to pay homage to their Japanese influences:
    • In "The Duel", the lightsabers are only activated by drawing them out of their scabbards;
    • In "The Twins", the lightsabers can reach extreme lengths that can even cut through very large objects;
    • In "Lop & Ochō", the lightsabers have character inscriptions on their blades. Like the Darksaber, one of these lightsabers is an important symbol to the Yasaburo Clan.
  • Hondo Ohnaka refers to lightsabers as "laser swords".
