Knick Knack is Pixar's fifth short film. It was released in 1989 at SIGGRAPH and then released on May 30, 2003 with Finding Nemo in theaters. It was even released on October 20, 2006 with The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D. It was the last pre-Toy Story short and the first one to be originally produced in 3D.
Plot[]
In the short, a snowman named Knick in a snow globe wants to get to a pretty Sunny Miami knick-knack. He tries various methods to escape. First, he tries to bust the dome with the igloo in the globe. Being flat plastic, it just floats to the bottom. Next, he tries using his carrot nose as a chisel with a hammer on the dome wall. This just gets his nose out of joint in that it ends up bent. Next, he tries to jackhammer through the globe floor. This just results in all of his facial features being vibrated off. He then tries to use a blowtorch to weld a hole in the globe. This just results in him being shot into the other side of the globe. Finally, he sets up a large stack of explosives and hides behind the upturned igloo. This results in everything, him, the igloo and snow, getting swirled around the globe. During all of these incidents, Sunny Miami looks more and more bored while the other knick-knacks look on. After the swirling stops, he notices his snow globe is partly over the edge of the shelf. He looks down at the edge and this tips him over the edge, literally. Knick tries running in the globe in panic, but this just rotates the globe. Soon, he notices a hatch in the floor of the globe, which is now above him. This gets him free from his watery prison. He falls off the screen and a plop sound is heard. It is then shown that he has fallen into a fish aquarium. He is still in water, staring crossly at the camera. He looks to his left and sees a pretty Sunny Atlantis knick-knack. He gets a lustful look on his face and begins walking towards her. At this point, the snow globe falls into the water, putting Knick inside through the hatch, which then closes. He, entranced by Sunny Atlantis, doesn't notice until he bumps into the dome wall, at which point he looks around and, realizing where he is, again looks crossly at the camera.

Trivia[]
- Knick Knack can be seen as a book in Toy Story. It also appeared in the Toy Story Midway Mania! attraction and game.
- When Hamm is clicking through channels in Toy Story 2, the Sunny knick knacks (in the original version of the short) can be seen once on the TV, and Knick (the Snowman) can be seen several times on said TV.
- This was one of the only two pre-Toy Story Pixar shorts to be re-released alongside a feature film from Pixar, the first being Luxo Jr. when it was released alongside Toy Story 2 in 1999.
- The original version was the last film to regularly use the 1986 Pixar logo.
- When this short was re-released with Finding Nemo, it had received many changes:
- The opening has information about the short and the short version of the 1995 Pixar logo.
- The two female characters' breasts were reduced in size.
- The mermaid on the "Sunny Atlantis" knick-knack is wearing a clam bra in place of starfish pasties.
- John Lasseter defended the changes by saying, "It wasn't big bad Disney coming in and insisting we do this … it was our own choice. It was just crossing the line for me personally as a father. So I made the decision to reduce [these characters'] breast size."[1]
- The end credits has been updated without the closing title.
- Also in Finding Nemo, the Sunny Atlantis Mermaid appears as the figurehead of the grime-covered ship in the fish tank.
- As a reference to this short, it made two cameos in Cars:
- Knick is seen in the snow globe in Lizzie's Curios Shop. However, he is not car-ified.
- A group of flamingos resembling the Sunny Florida one are seen near a parker van watching the final race. However, none of them are car-ified.
- The Sunny Miami Girl is seen in Up on a flyer when Carl is ordering tickets.
- Knick appears inside his snow globe at the very beginning of Toy Story That Time Forgot.
- Unlike all other tools used by Knick, the golden handle of the emergency door can be seen on the floor through all the short
- Sunny Israel is the only one with its name written in Hebrew (except for the "sunny" part)
- After Knick failed to blow up the dome wall with explosions, Knick's carrot was black instead of orange for a short time.
