Johnny Yong Bosch is an American actor, martial artist, voice actor, and musician. His first major role was playing Adam Park (the second Black Mighty Morphin Power Ranger; later Zeo Ranger IV - Green, and first Green Turbo Ranger) in the Power Rangers franchise, which led to roles in some martial arts films and television shows. He also provided the English dub voices for various anime productions and video games, including Kiba in Wolf's Rain, Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach, Vash the Stampede in Trigun, Yukio Okumura in Blue Exorcist, Izaya Orihara in Durarara!!, Guy Cecil in Tales of the Abyss, Artemis in Sailor Moon (Viz Media dub), Nero in Capcom's Devil May Cry video game franchise, Lelouch Vi Britannia in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Giyu Tomioka in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Hajime Hinata in Danganronpa, Jonathan Joestar in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Itsuki Kouzumi in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Genma Shiranui and Sasori in Naruto, Makoto Tachibana in Free!, Zora Ideale in Black Clover, and Orga Itsuka in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
His Disney roles are providing the voice of Napo and the singing voice for Tomas Heredia in the English dubbed version of the Disney Channel telenovela, Violetta and for voicing Tompok in The Lion Guard.
Biography[]
Bosch was born in Kansas City, Missouri to an American father and a South Korean mother. From an early age, Bosch was fascinated with martial arts and mimicked several famous martial artists such as Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. Bosch mentioned that he was a bully in his past but changed upon learning kung fu. At the time of auditioning for Power Rangers, Bosch was studying Shaolin Kung Fu under Master James Clark in Texas and it was Clark that showed him the audition ad and prompted him to audition.
After Walter Jones left the franchise due to a pay dispute, Bosch was cast as his replacement as the new character Adam. Bosch changed his middle name to Yong to sound more Asian at the request of Saban and has been using this name for all of his professional activities since. Bosch remained in the role of Adam for three years until Power Rangers Turbo when everyone except Blake Foster was let go to create a clean slate team and increase ratings. One year later, Bosch reprised his role as Adam in the Power Rangers in Space episode "Always a Chance".
Since the end of Power Rangers, Bosch has found great success as a voice actor, having accumulated prolific roles in anime and video games such as Vash the Stampede in Trigun/Trigun Stampede, Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach, Lelouch vi Britannia in Code Geass, Yu Narukami in Persona 4, Nero from the Devil May Cry series, Yukio Okumura in Blue Exorcist, Jonathan Joestar in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Hajime Hinata in Danganronpa, and Giyu Tomioka in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Since starting his voiceover career, Bosch has occasionally returned to Power Rangers. He reprised his role as Adam in both the Power Rangers Operation Overdrive two-parter "Once a Ranger" and the MMPR 30th anniversary special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. He has also voiced several Rangers in both the Super Megaforce game and Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid.
