J. Curby Gremlin is a supporting antagonist in the 2011Disney/Pixar animated film Cars 2. He is a Lemon who is the head of the Gremlin family, working for Professor Zündapp.
"J. Curby is the current patriarch of the Gremlin crime family, but he got there by some unconventional roads. Don't let the rough exterior fool you - he was once maître d'hôtel of the flagship restaurant of superstar Motorio Brake-tali. He even soaked in the best of the big city's shows. These days, J. Curby has turned to a life of mischief, serving up danger and singing a more ominous tune...."[1]
Personality[]
Like all the other Lemons, J. Curby Gremlin is a cold-hearted terrorist who would do anything for a quick buck. He is also notorious for being a crime boss and an iron-fisted family leader.
Apparently, he is very sadistic because he loved the idea of discrediting Allinol by using the electromagnetic pulse generator disguised as a camera which would cause the racers to blow their engines, crash, and make sure that every car would keep on using ordinary fuel to secure the profits of the Lemon organization.
Physical Appearance[]
J. Curby is a 1974 AMC Gremlin that is painted in purple paint, and has the "hockey stripe" pattern that most Gremlins have painted in tan. He has a chrome grille and headlights, as well as grey rims.
Powers and abilities[]
J. Curby has a deployable machine gun located on his left side, seen when he uses it to try and shoot Mater, Lightning McQueen, Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell.
Weaponry and Gadgets[]
Deployable Machine Gun: Located on his right side, he got it out when trying to kill Holley Shiftwell, Finn McMissile, Lightning McQueen and Mater. But before he could fire, he got sprayed by Red.
In Cars 2, J. Curby Gremlin and the other main heads of the three lemon families (Pacer, Trunkov, Hugo) attend a meeting, with Professor Z, in Porto Corsa to discuss their evil plans about discrediting Allinol, by using the electromagnetic pulse generator disguised as a camera to cause the racers in the World Grand Prix that use the gas to blow their engines and crash, and ensure that all cars keep using conventional fuel to secure the profits of their "lemon" organization who managed to secure the largest unexplored oil resources in the world. J. Curby is seen smiling at the idea. He mentioned himself that he is from Detroit, Michigan when Victor Hugo entered the meeting room in Italy.
After Professor Zündapp faced his defeat, J. Curby and many more members of the lemons showed up. When everyone was fighting, Red showed up and successfully sprayed J. Curby and some of the members with his hose, leaving the terrorist trapped at the fence near one of the buildings in London, the location where he was arrested.
Trivia[]
He is a 1974 AMC Gremlin with a purple paint coat and the yellow hockey stripe.
His license plate number is RB 214
J. Curby is the only head lemon who was seen with a weapon.
According to the French version of Cars 2, J. Curby's full name is John Curby Gremlin.
He appears in Cars 2: The Video Game along with several look-alikes. They are enemies that you have to destroy in Hunter or Attack modes. In those modes, multiple amounts of them appear, and you have to destroy them. In Hunter mode, they could try to shoot you.
When Mater scans J. Curby and the other lemon heads, it is shown that J. Curby is currently wanted in the Republic of New Rearendia, which is a fictional country that Rip Clutchgoneski is from. This is possibly another Easter egg.
Curby Gremlin's first name is unknown, but, according to the French version of Cars 2, it’s most likely John.
He has only been released once the 1:55 scale die-cast line.
J. was going to receive die-cast variant with a weapon, but it got cancelled.
Whether on purpose or not, his voice actor is also named John.
