Idrissa Akuna "Idris" Elba, OBE, is an British-Sierra Leonean-American film, television, and theatre actor, voice actor, musician, DJ, and director, who is best known for his role as Russell "Stringer" Bell in the HBO crime drama series The Wire (2002-2004), and currently stars as John Luther in the BBC psychological crime drama series, Luther, since 2010. He has also played Stacker Pentecost in Guillermo del Toro's 2013 monster film, Pacific Rim, Commandant in the 2015 critically acclaimed Netflix-distributed war drama film, Beasts of No Nation, Krall/Balthazar Edison in the 2016 science fiction adventure film, Star Trek Beyond, Brixton Lore in the 2019 Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw, and Robert DuBois/Bloodsport in the 2021 DC Extended Universe film, The Suicide Squad. He will provide the voice of Knuckles the Echidna in the 2022 film, Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

For Disney, he portrayed Heimdall in the 2011 Marvel action film, Thor and reprised his role in the 2013 film, Thor: The Dark World, in the 2015 film, Avengers: Age of Ultron, in the 2017 film, Thor: Ragnarok, and in the 2018 film, Avengers: Infinity War. He also voiced Shere Khan in Jon Favreau's 2016 live-action film adaptation of The Jungle Book, Chief Bogo in the 2016 Disney animated feature film, Zootopia, and Fluke in the 2016 Disney/Pixar film, Finding Dory. He also portayed Cornell Efrem in the Indiana Jones sequel trilogy.
