Humpty Dumpty is one of the nursery rhyme characters to appear in Mother Goose: Rhymes To The Rescue.
Background[]
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.
Humpty may be an egg and a little accident-prone, but he sure knows what to do in any situation, especially when it comes to helping Old MacDonald and his friends save Mother Goose and Rhymeville from the no-good Ill Wills. Whenever he falls, the King's Horses and the King's Men always come to his aid.
Humpty appears as a bluish-greenish egg the size of a child with arms, legs, and face. He wears a yellow-orange shirt with a white collar, blue jeans with a black belt, brown dress shoes, a purple vest, and an orange ascot.
Appearances[]
In the movie, Humpty is first mentioned by Old MacDonald. Later while Old Mac rides through town on his horse, Marshall, he sees Humpty cracked from falling off the wall while All the King's Horses and All the King's Men are analyzing the situation. Even though Humpty's cracked, he still talks to the farmer.
When Old MacDonald asks how Old King Cole is, the egg tells him to ask the king himself, which Old Mac does after saying goodbye. Later, Humpty is as good as new while he sings his rhyme as part of "The Nursery Rhyme Medley".
As soon as the Ill Wills take control of Rhymeville, Humpty is no longer allowed to sit on walls and all the King's Horses and all the King's Men can no longer help him. So Mr. Dumpty decides to join Old MacDonald, Marshall, Hickory Dickory Dock, the Itsy Bitsy Spider, Mrs. Pumpkin-Eater , Little Jack Horner, Mary and her little lamb on their journey to save Mother Goose.
Of course, he has to go on foot while trying to keep up with his friends. Later, they team up with the Lion, the Unicorn, the Cat with the fiddle, the Cow that jumps over the moon, the Little Dog, the Dish, and the Spoon. Humpty rides the Unicorn while Mary and Jack ride the Lion.
The gang makes it past many obstacles until they decide to rest for the night, realizing that they need to believe in themselves in order to save their home. When Mary is captured by the Ill Wills, Old Mac and his gang follow her lamb to find the paper fortress. They enter the fortress disguised as a giant centipede; once inside, the rhymesters take off their disguise and free their friends.
But before they can escape, the Ill Wills trap them refusing to let them continue their rhymes since the Wills hate rhymes and children. While Mother Goose goes after Commander Will, the Rhymesters take on the other Wills. Humpty defeats the Wills by rolling himself like a bowling ball and knocking them down like pins.
As soon as all the Ill Wills are gone, Mother Goose decrees that she and her Rhymesters shall continue to do their rhymes. Humpty is even seen at the celebration party in Old King Cole's castle; after the party, Humpty and his friends return home to continue acting out their rhymes. In the end, Humpty and the other Rhymesters wave goodbye to the viewers.
Video Games[]
Humpty appears in the video game as one of the playable characters once he is freed from imprisonment at his wall. His abilities are to climb walls and roll himself (which he calls his egg roll).
Trivia[]
- Humpty Dumpty is also seen in the book by Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass.
- Although Humpty is not imprisoned in the movie, he is in the video game until released.
- Even when Humpty falls, it doesn't mean it's the end of him, which is why he keeps acting out his rhyme.
