Glenda Veronica "Glenn" Close is an American actress, producer, and singer, who is well-known for her portrayal of Cruella De Vil in the 1996 live-action adaptation of Disney's 101 Dalmatians and its 2000 sequel. She also played Vice President Katheryn Bennett in the 1997 political action thriller film, Air Force One, and provided both the speaking and singing voice of Kala in the 1999 Disney animated feature film, Tarzan (in which she performed "You'll Be in My Heart", a duet with Phil Collins). She reprised her role as Kala in its 2005 midquel. Additionally, she portrayed Irani Rael in James Gunn's 2014 Marvel superhero film, Guardians of the Galaxy.
Close is also well-known for her signature "witch-like" laugh and scream, as heard during her portrayal of Cruella De Vil, and is set to be the executive producer for the upcoming Cruella film alongside Emma Stone (with the latter taking over the role of Cruella De Vil from Close).
In other works outside of Disney, she notably voiced Granny Puckett in Hoodwinked! and its 2011 sequel, and Mona from The Simpsons. As well as her live-action film roles in The World According to Garp (1982), The Big Chill (1983), The Natural (1984), Fatal Attraction (1987), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), Albert Nobbs (2011), The Wife (2017), and Hillbilly Elegy (2020), all of which earned Close eight Academy Award nominations and holding the record for the most acting nominations without a win (tying the record with the late Peter O'Toole), while making her as one of the five most nominated actresses in the Academy history.
