"Down to the Sea" is the first song in the film The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea. The song is sung by mainly Ariel and Sebastian, but parts are also sung by Prince Eric, Grimsby, and both humans and merpeople.

The song mainly serves to explain that Ariel is at long last returning to the sea, with her husband and a few subjects, so that both humans and merpeople can celebrate the christening of Ariel and Eric's newborn daughter Melody, the first child ever born of land and sea. At the same time, Ariel is expressing how much she loves her daughter, and that she hopes that Melody will share her love of the sea.

Lyrics[]

Ariel:

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah (x2)

You are my world, my darling

What a wonderful world I see

You are the song I'm singing

You're my beautiful Melody

Eric:

Darling, we better be going

Ariel:

Look at her, isn't she glowing?

Eric:

She looks divine, and you look exquisite

But look at the time

Ariel:

Couldn't be, is it?

Grimsby:

The crew is awaiting your orders

Captain:

We're sailing away from our borders

Sailor 1:

Steady, boy, steady

Sailor 2:

Ahoy there, they're coming!

Grimsby:

Trumpeters ready, drummers start drumming

Ariel:

Down to the sea we go

Down to a world I know

There's never been, not ever before

A child born of sea and shore

Chorus:

Down to the sea we go

Back to the world we know

A journey to bless the princess to be

Under the sun and under the sea

Fish and other sea creatures:

Ariel's coming...

Sebastian:

What's all the big commotion

That's spreading through the ocean?

From sea to shining sea

There is no hesitating

Today we're celebrating

Ariel's Melody

Today when Triton's daughter

Comes back into the water

We're gonna have a spree

The boat is nearer now

I think I hear her now

Ariel's Melody

Fish chorus:

La la la la de da da

La la la la de da da

La la la la de de

Bass snail:

Oh... yeah~

Fish chorus:

La la de da da

La la de da da

La la la la de de

Chorus:

Up from the sea we rise

Up to the world of skies

There's never been, not ever before

A child born of sea and shore

Up from the sea we rise

Up to the world of skies

Forever to be together as one

Under the sea and under the sun

Ariel:

This is your world, my darling

One world, the land and sea

My hope for you for always

Is that your heart will hold part of me

Chorus:

Down to the sea we go

Chorus:

Up from the sea...

Chorus:

Back to the world we know

Everyone:

Together we come forever to be

Under one sun, the land and the sea

Goofs[]

  • When the merpeople and the sea creatures surface to see Ariel and Eric presenting their baby daughter, the humans are not seen on their ship.
  • Overhead, only the ship's crew are with Ariel and Eric, and as the view widens, the crowd of merpeople and sea creatures appear simply copied-and-pasted.
