Disney Family Movies was a subscription video-on-demand service which launched on December 10, 2008. The service offered a selection of movies and short films from the Walt Disney Pictures film library for about $5-10 per month, which makes it similar in structure to Disney Channel's original model as a premium service.
The service offered 12 films per month, with new films being added and dropped every Tuesday, as well as select Disney shorts and sneak peeks at what's new in theaters and at the theme parks. At the end of October 2019, the 10 year old video on demand service closed operations in preparation for Disney+'s forthcoming launch and alignment as the new home for Disney's entertainment library.
