Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is an American computer-animated comedy film. It is based upon the book series Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid webcomic and is a re-adaptation of the second Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, which was previously adapted as a live-action film. It was released on December 2, 2022 on Disney+.[1]
Similarly, to Cheaper by the Dozen, but unlike the first installment, the copyright holder was listed as 20th Century Studios on the film poster and trailer, rather than Disney Enterprises, Inc.
This film uses the 2011 Disney logo despite the previously-released Strange World having already moved on to the new 100 year anniversary logo introduced earlier in September 2022.
As result, this is the sixth film that use previous Disney logo even the new logo introduced, after Brother Bear, The Fox and the Hound 2, Ratatouille (the first three both use 1990 logo or 1995 Pixar logo after 2006 Disney logo introduced), Treasure Buddies and Indian film Arjun: The Warrior Prince (the last two both use 2006 logo after 2011 modified logo introduced).
This is the second film in the series to be fully animated in a CGI format.
This film features a posthumous role from Edward Asner, who unfortunately passed away a year before the film was released, and to whom the film is also dedicated in memory of.[2] As a result, this would end up becoming his last role in an animated feature, and the last of such for Disney.
