Coco 2 is an upcoming American 3D computer-animated fantasy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios. It is a sequel to Coco. The original director of Coco, Lee Unkrich, announced he is coming out of retirement to direct the film, along with long time Pixar employee and director Adrian Molina.[1][2]
Production[]
On March 20, 2025, Bob Iger announced the sequel was in development for a theatrical release.[1] The initial announcement stated it would be released in 2029 but that was quickly removed.
Trivia[]
Coco will be the eighth Pixar film to become a franchise, after Toy Story, Cars, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Inside Out, and Luca.
Coco will also be the second Pixar film from the 2010s to become a franchise after Inside Out.
The gap between the first film and this one makes the Coco franchise one of the longest running beyond 2010. It is also the third longest gap between the first and second film, followed by The Incredibles and Incredibles 2, which had a 14 year gap, then followed by Enchanted and Disenchanted, where there was a 15 year gap between the films.
