The Central Park Zoo (also known as New York Zoo) is a small 6.5-acre (2.6 ha) zoo located in Central Park in New York City. It is part of an integrated system of four zoos and the New York Aquarium managed by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). In Disney media, it is featured in the 2006 animated film The Wild.
The Central Park Zoo is the film's main setting where Samson, his son Ryan, and their zoo friends Nigel, Bridget, Larry, and Benny live, along with other zoo animals (such as penguins, gazelles, hippos, etc.). During the film's opening, Samson tells his story to his son about his adventures in the wild, although none of them are true. Every night when the zoo closes, the animals roam free and spend their time doing their nighttime activities, such as turtle curling. During a game of turtle curling, Ryan accidentally causes a stampede of gazelles to ruin the game. Feeling nervous before Samson can apologize, Ryan ends up in a green box that ships animals to the wild, and Samson and the others escape the zoo to rescue Ryan.
