Catherine Élise "Cate" Blanchett (born May 14, 1969), AC is an Australian-British and American actress and producer, who came to international attention for her role as Elizabeth I of England in the 1998 biographical film Elizabeth (for which she received an Academy Award nomination) and its 2007 sequel Elizabeth: The Golden Age. She is also well known for her roles as Galadriel in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, and as Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's 2004 biographical drama film The Aviator, which earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, and later won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Jeanette "Jasmine" Francis in Woody Allen's 2013 black comedy-drama film Blue Jasmine, and was subsequently nominated in the same category in Todd Haynes's 2015 romantic period drama film Carol. She also voiced Hiccup's mother, Valka in the DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon franchise.
For Disney, she played Jane Winslett-Richardson in Wes Anderson's 2004 Touchstone Pictures film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and portrayed Lady Tremaine in Kenneth Branagh's 2015 Disney live-action adaptation of Cinderella. She also voiced Granmamare in the 2008 Studio Ghibli/Disney English dub version of Ponyo. In addition, she played Veronica Guerin in Joel Schumacher's 2003 biographical crime Touchstone Pictures film of the same name and Colonel-Doctor Irina Spalko in Steven Spielberg's 2008 action adventure film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. She has also played Hela in Taika Waititi's 2017 Marvel superhero film Thor: Ragnarok, Elaine Wolff in The Simpsons episode "The Way of the Dog", and Dr. Lilith Ritter in Guillermo del Toro's 2021 20th Century Studios neo-noir psychological thriller film Nightmare Alley.
