The Steyr Mannlicher AUG A3, known in the in-game files as the AUG is an Austrian bullpup assault rifle using the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge designed in the 1960's by Steyr itself. It was adopted by the Austrian army replacing the STG-77 itself, and also replaced the licensed copy of FN FAL itself. Importation to the United States began in the 1980's, but was banned by the Bush Administation, and six years into it's ban, changes to the design cosmetically allowed importation once again and the gun barrel being unthreaded to prevent bad actors from installing flash hiders and suppressors, and Steyr Arms worked with Sabre Defence to legally produce the weapon in the United States once again in 2008.
Functionality[]
Within the XNDUIW community, the AUG was used specifically by xDeoylesy when she was active in Phantom Forces during the beta days of the community itself, not to mention the AUG A1 was quoted as her favorite weapon in that game, 2nd only to the RPK, which was part of the Kalashnikov family of assault rifles too. It is the standard rifle of numerous Austrian federal law enforcement units, and some using it as a standard-issue service rifle too. It has a rotating bolt that includes seven radial locking lugs, and is unlocked by means of a pin on the bolt body, and a embossed camming guide machined into the bolt carrier assembly itself, not to mention, the AUG A1 had a permanent scope attached to it, when compared to the A2 and A3 models of the weapon, which utilized a picatinny rail instead, and considering the weapon is best used for the community's behalf too. It was implemented alongside the implementation of ACS 2.0.0 within the community anyhow, considering that it was important to know the fact that the weapon was used by the Australian army too, codenamed the Austeyr itself in 1989.
In Phantom Forces, it was a primary weapon of choice, however, the weapon does have a receiver that permits conversion into several other ammunition types, but requires modification of the weapon itself. As an example to this, replacing the standard ammo it fires to the 40 S&W changes the weapon's name to the AUG 40 itself, and alongside the weapon's other conversions that are available to it too. All AUG models have a detachable barrel that can be detached rapidly, with aperture iron sights too.
